Last night, I’m proud to say my very good friend and fellow MTV TJ candidate Gabi Gregg won the competition and a $100,000 salary at MTV!
It was such a crazy weekend! I got in to New York City around 4pm on Saturday. I moved out of my apartment last week, and needed Friday evening to just relax before what would end up being one of the best weekends I’ve had in New York. I met up with my best friends in the city first to celebrate Neall’s birthday. We went to Brooklyn Bowl, a really nice bar/bowling alley with live music and a dance floor. We had never been there before, but it was SO fun! If you’re in the NYC area, definitely check it out.
After bowling, my friend Danny and I headed over to the apartment that 7 of my fellow MTV TJ contestants rented out for the weekend. We had SUCH a fun time hanging out on the roof of the apartment building in the lower east side, taking pictures with the Empire State Building in the back. These guys are truly amazing, and I had an absolute blast with them. By 2am I was getting VERY tired, and left to get some sleep. I apparently missed the MTV TJ Top 5 (minus Ryan) who showed up at the apartment only a few minutes after I had left.
Sunday I woke up and ran to H&M to get something nice for the finale later on that night. After some traffic and some pushing and shoving through the store I found what I wanted, headed back to Brooklyn to change, and drove down with Courtney, Phillip and Johnny to the Brooklyn Academy of Music where the MTV TJ finale was airing live! Danny met up with us once we got there.
The entire night was so much fun. I met Brett, the producer that we had worked with throughout the summer, as well as some other familiar names. The show was a lot faster than I had expected for some reason. Within the first 10 minutes, the first top 5 candidate was eliminated…my buddy Jose. I was sitting with other MTV TJers (Dan, Pegah, Ryan C., and Danielle) directly behind the top 5. After Jose was voted off we were shocked! We had spent so much time with these guys over the last few months that seeing it narrowed down to a top 4 was really bizarre.
Well, the show went on. Ryan L. was voted off next. Then Xavier, which left Dannielle and Gabi as the top 2. And after a very tense commercial break, Gabi Gregg was announced the winner and first ever MTV TJ!
I got to know Gabi pretty well throughout the competition and can say with absolute certainty that she is a fantastic fit for the job. She is charismatic, beautiful, and intelligent…a perfect recipe for such a fun job. I wish Gabi nothing but the best! I’m sure Gabi and I will be meeting up sometime in the future again. Check out Gabi’s winning moment right here:Vodpod videos no longer available.
After the show ended, we stuck around and the TJs all talked about the results. I got to meet and talk to Sway who is SUCH an amazing talent. When that camera comes on, he is on his A game! I was very impressed. Lauren, one of the casting directors took our pictures with Sway, so hopefully that picture will be up soon enough.
I also met two of my followers who got tickets to the show! Andy and Michael said hi on the way out and I took a picture with them. I was SOO hot and sweaty from the lights in the front row, but they look amazing! These guys are great!
When we left, I got a text from Jose to come down to Frank’s Lounge, real close to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I was at the other end of Brooklyn by that time, but I had to give Jose one last hug before he headed back home across the country. Turns out Gabi, Dannielle and Ryan were there too, and I snapped a picture with them before they headed home for the evening.
It’s really hard to believe that this is all over. I had such a beautiful, amazing summer full of fun and exciting experiences. Thank you so much to Brett and MTV for considering me worthy of being one of 20 people to compete for such a lucrative position. I hope that this isn’t the last time I hear from MTV. I think I have a lot to offer.
As for what’s next for me? I have a lot of ideas. I’m going to keep my sights set on moving to NYC as I have for the last year. Besides that you’ll have to follow me on Twitter and find out! 😉
