On Saturday I went to visit Jess and Brittney in Pittsburgh, while they were visiting. We decided that we really wanted to go to the zoo, so we went. Of course not without getting a bit lost first (blasted Pittsburgh).
It was sooooo much fun!
I hadn’t been to a zoo since the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans back in 2003. It was fascinating, but not as fascinating as this time for some reason.
We saw lions, tigers, bears, elephants, elephants defecating, gorillas, gorillas doing inappropriate things, seahorses, penguins and sea lions, just to name a few.
This picture was taken when one gorilla put his butt in the other’s face, while the gorilla in the background was like “Guys? What’s going on over there.”
Regardless of what inappropriate and somewhat disturbing things the gorillas were doing, the three of us had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs at the zoo.
We got to see the penguins which was sooo fun. They are the same penguins (and same zoo) that were featured on one of the episodes of Jon and Kate Plus 8!
The penguins didn’t really do much other than just stand around. One floated around on top of the water, but that was about it. Check the video below for some of that.
As we were leaving we saw the sea lion exhibit, which was the most fascinating part of the whole zoo! They were feeding them and training them and it was so interesting to see these giant creatures be so calm, and attentive to their owners.
By the end of the day I was indifferent about my experience. Seeing and experiencing the animals was definitely a treat, but you can’t help but feel sad for them being held in captivity. Though all of the exhibits seemed proportionate (except the penguin exhibit, which seemed very closed) you still feel sorry for the animals that have been ripped from their natural habitat.
Here is some video I took with my digital camera. It was such a sunny day so the sea lion video might be hard to see. Definitely check out the Pittsburgh Zoo if you ever get a chance.
