This is somewhat last minute but totally worth posting. One of my very good friends, Phillip Salem, is walking in his Relay for Life walk in Ohio this weekend(donate here…more on donating at the bottom). Phillip may be one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met, and I encourage you to click the link above in red to donate to his Relay for Life teamm and support his cause and effort of making a difference.
Phillip lost his mother to cancer last year, and has since devoted his life to helping others, in particular children who have lost parents and children in extreme poverty.
A few months ago Phillip worked with an organization in New York City known as H.E.A.L. which stands for Helping Each other After Loss of a Loved One. Here, Phillip volunteered with children and families who have lost a mother, father or loved one close to their hearts. Below is a photo of Phillip with a boy named Matthew who had lost his father, both smiling from ear to ear.
Shortly after his volunteering with H.E.A.L., Phillip travelled to Brazil to volunteer at Lar Da Crianca, an orphanage in Brazil for poverty-stricken newborns to 18 year-olds. He ended up working at a charity daycare that Mother Theresa started, giving baths to the children, coloring, playing games, serving lunch, and being a role model to some kids who may have never met someone who can dedicate that kind of time to them.
The list of accomplishments and generosity is never-ending with Phillip, as I am sure many of my friends who interact with him on a daily basis in New York can attest to.
As I mentioned, Phillip is walking at a Relay for Life in Ohio this weekend. I donated to his cause and would really urge anyone who has an extra $5 or more, to please donate to his cause as well. President Obama has called to find a cure for cancer in our lifetime, and with ample support and funding I truly believe that we can end this disease that has plagued so many families and friends all over the world.
If you can’t donate financially, light a candle in his (or your) family’s honor, think of something kind you can do, or even send him an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to support his will of making a difference. If there is one person out there who would be absolutely speechless and thankful for your support in any way, it’s Phillip. Please let him know you’re thinking of him and his family.
