UPDATE: Per the request of Neall, it should be mentioned that the stats were wrong on Sunday, and on Monday afternoon the real stats were released. The Hangover ended up being the No.1 movie this weekend, taking over Up for the top spot. Impressive!
So after reading peoples’ Tweets, and hearing by word of mouth, I went to see The Hangover with Brooke Sunday evening.
After paying $9 to see the movie in the shittiest theatres in a 300 mile radius, and another $10 for pretzel bites and a drink, I sat down excited to see what all the hooplah was about.
I don’t really want to go in to any sort analyzation because there isn’t any to be had – it’s very surface level. There were tons of funny parts, but I don’t think it was nearly as funny as people said or what I was expecting. All I heard was, “This was the funniest movie I have seen in quite a long time.” I mean I definitely laughed, in particular at the heavier guy’s character, but overall I was just kind of bored with it. I don’t like Bradley Cooper at all for some reason, so I think that may have been it.
It just seemed like the movie was trying so hard to make these middle aged actors seem young and hip to their college days by going out in Las Vegas and doing crazy things. The heavier guy definitely stole the show.
It also turns out that this movie, which cost nearly nothing to make, made $45 million dollars this weekend, opening just behind Up. It had the 15th highest debut for a rated R movie, and opened bigger than Superbad and Wedding Crashers.
In the end, yes, it was funny, but I doubt it will be a movie I ever see again. I give it 7.5 stars out of 10.
