I usually refrain from talking about tragic and sorrowful news on my site because I think the mainstream media does a good enough job of reporting that.
But, I was shocked to find out today while browsing my Twitter news feeds that a widow of a man that died in the September 11th terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center was one of the 48 (or 49?) people that died in the accident in Buffalo yesterday.
Beverly Eckert (pictured) was actually on her way to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been her husband’s 58th birthday. Just last week she was at the White House for a meeting with President Obama about how the new administration would handle terrorism in the years ahead.
This is just absolutely devastating to me. September 11th, for some reason, really hit home with me. Ask any of my friends. It was such a huge, serious situation to me, as if I knew somebody that had passed away that day. I am not sure why I have such a connection with it compared to most people, but I do.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of these victims. I can’t imagine such a horrible tragedy happening not once but twice to someone in my family.

How crazy is this? A plane went down apparently after hitting a flock of birds in to the Hudson river earlier today. According to CNN and rescued passengers, it was about as nice of a plane crash as you could have had landing in to a river.
This is something I think about every time I get on a plane. Who doesn’t? I think I would have been in hysterics if I were on it though. Though, seeing that I was landing in water would have made things a lot better for me. I can handle water.
There was footage on CNN of people being put on to the rescue boats, and some of them were smiling! That’s great. Well, about as great as this situation can be.
The photo on the left is from Twitter user dlpager, who was on the ferry to rescue the people from the plane. All 150 passengers and 5 crew members survived thanks to the apparently amazing captain.
