Compassion February 8, 2010

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

I keep forgetting about my “Moods” but thankfully I have Julien to thank for keeping me in check with them.

Here it is!

Movies: In January I saw a lot of movies. I saw The Lovely Bones, which was absolutely fascinating. It kept me thinking and had an affect on me for days after I saw it. I also saw Sherlock Holmes, which was a lot of fun, but not really a classic by any means. I ventured out and saw Avatar in 3D, which if you read this blog, know my thoughts on it. Overall, a lot of great movies in January!

DVD: I bought Madonna’s “Confessions Tour” after spending 2 straight weeks with Courtney, and watched it 10 times in 1 week. I couldn’t stop! It’s such a fascinating show. Please buy this DVD, it’s the best home-concert experience that you’ll ever see!

Top 5 Songs of January:
1. Bess Rogers – Travel Back
2. Bess Rogers – Yellow Bird
3. Beyonce feat. Lady Gaga – Video Phone
4. Madonna – Lucky Star
5. Bess Rogers – I Don’t Worry

TV Shows: I haven’t watched much TV in January, at all. Nothing really kept my interest, other than the Hope For Haiti relief telethon and the Australian Open. However, now that it’s February you know I’m going to be all over Lost!

Purchase: This might be my most favorite purchase in a very long time. I bought a new stereo system for my car! It’s a Kenwood something or other, and I can now play my iPhone directly in to the stereo instead of with crappy radio antenna transfers! It’s really pretty and the sound quality is gorgeous!

Travel: I went just about everywhere in January. I started 2010 in NYC and expect to end it there as well! I visited Brittney in Altoona for a night. I went to DC to visit C’Anna before we traveled to NYC for my birthday. Just went last weekend again. A lot of traveling and a lot of exciting memories that I’ll never forget!

Something I’ve Discovered: It’s no secret that I’ve always been a HUGE fan of Rosie O’Donnell. No, not the Rosie O’Donnell that we all see on television being loud and obnoxious, but the Rosie that is compassionate, intelligent, smart and opinionated. There’s nothing I love more than a confident woman. Well, good news folks, she now has a radio show on Sirius! I got Sirius this summer, and can’t imagine a better way to spend my money! I’ve listened every day, and you should too! Check her out here!

red-leaf-1Autumn is here, finally. I had to wear a jacket on my way to the leaf-covered tennis courts this morning.

The Fall always reminds me of love for some reason.

I gave up on Moods for a while because I wasn’t interesting enough, to be quite frank. I wasn’t filling them with interesting, worth-while information that I thought anyone would care about. However, after looking back at previous Moods from last year, there are already things I would have forgotten if I didn’t write about them — yet another reason for you to start a blog!

So I’m bringing Moods back starting with July!

Movies: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! I wrote a review of the movie, and my overall thoughts, but have kept it as a draft. I might publish it later, but overall I couldn’t write everything I wanted to in a short enough blog that anyone would find interesting. In short: amazing movie, but sad about some of the important scenes from the book that were left out.

DVD: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! – I watched the ending of this movie about 10 times before I went to see Half-Blood Prince. It’s the only DVD I have even had time to think about this month.

Music: Music is now changing to Top 5 Songs of the month due to the fact that I can never just pick one song or artist to represent an entire month. I was originally going to report my Top 5 songs according to my Last.fm, but now that I drive to and from work, I don’t scrobble all of my music. I’ve added a 6th song, which is the one that probably could have been No.5, but didn’t make the cut this month (See below).

Top 5 Songs of July:
1. Whitney Houston – “I Look To You”
2. Ingrid Michaelson – “Maybe”
3. Mariah Carey – “Obsessed”
4. Passion Pit – “Little Secrets”
5. Chester French – “She Loves Everybody”
6. Beyonce – “Halo”

TV Shows: Just recently bought a season pass for Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, because it was only $15 on iTunes! Wowsers!

Game: I wish I had more time to play games, but probably my Wild Wild West pinball game on the iPhone. A lot of fun!

Book/Magazine: Is it bad that I am an English major and don’t read as much as I would like. This section of my blog is going to be the sole purpose in my reading a lot more. No books or magazines in July. (I work too much!)

Purchase: I’ve made a lot of awesome purchases lately. Most importantly: my iPhone 3Gs! So much faster, and the video quality is so much better than I expected. Last month I bought Sirius radio which has been amazing. Also, spent $2 on a laser pointer that has been a source of amusement and laughter for my family because Mick, our dog, just chases it around until he can’t stand up on his own 2 legs anymore.

Travel: Since I spent 5 days in New York City last month, and I work full time, I didn’t travel that much this month. I went to Brittney’s in Altoona 2 weekends ago, and that was about it. It was a lot of fun, but I expect a return to New York City in August when the U.S. Open starts!

american-cities-129Bad news if you’re alive.

According to numbers just released today, the United States lost 598,000 jobs in the month of January alone. The national unemployment rate is 7.6%.

January 2009 became the third biggest loss of employment in the history of our country. That’s just behind 1944 after World War II, and worst since 1974.

598,000 people lost their jobs, but think about how many families that is. For every 1 person that lost their job there are probably at least 2 other people being affected directly.

It’s a sad day in America. How did we get here? Is it the war in Iraq? What major event is the reason behind our country being in the worst position since WORLD WAR II!?! I don’t get it. Thoughts?

I’m a little late with this, I know. But at least I am getting it out there! :)

obama_shep_print_final2Movies: Role Models – Pretty funny but probably not a movie that I will ever see again, at my own will.

DVD: Not technically a DVD, it was VHS, but The Jungle Book! Watched it in Canada with my loves. Favorite moment of November.

Music: Where do I begin? David Archuleta, Ingrid Michaelson (concert!), Beyonce, Brandy. I’m in music overload.

TV Shows: The Office is still taking the cake on this one.

Game: Downloaded The Price is Right on my iPhone but it has a lot of bugs, and keeps crashing. Fun nonetheless, and considering buying it for my DS.

Book/Magazine: GQ still my favorite magazine. Just started The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama at the end of November.

Purchase: UPDATE: I almost forgot: My black 16GB iPhone 3G! Awesome clothes during Black Friday sales! My $1 grab bag at The Emporium in downtown Cumberland, which included a chips and salsa dish, and a Barbie.

Travel: Went to Canada again! Had a blast for the weekend. Got to see Niagara Falls. Went to Pittsburgh for an Ingrid Michaelson concert. Went home for Thanksgiving. Wow, when I type it all out like that, November was a kick ass month.

Let’s not forget that November was the month that changed the course of history. Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States. Definietly a day and month that I am sure I will never forget.

October took forever, but I loved it so much. It’s officially fall and it’s so beautiful. )

Movies: W – A shitty movie about a shitty person. See it so you can complain about it later.

DVD: I don’t think that I have watched a single DVD this month!

Music: Lady Gaga, Adele, Ingrid Michaelson – Listened to them all a LOT in October! Love them!

TV Shows: SNL – Best ratings in 14 years, though not nearly as funny. Big names doesn’t always mean big laughs.

Game: Topple – Kevin Rose proclaimed his love about this on Twitter and it turns out I love it!

Book/Magazine – Started Twilight!

Purchase: Some fantastic clothes and my mint scented body wash! LOVE IT!

Travel: No big traveling in October other than back to Pittsburgh. Love Pittsburgh.

Maybe October was boring! I promise November will be much more awesome.

September was a fun month for me. I got adjusted to school, the weather was great, and I am happy. :)

Movies: Burn After Reading – Hilarious movie that not everyone would get.

DVD: Definitely The Office seasons 1-4 – This is all I watched all month long

Music: Lady Gaga’s “Fame” – One of the best dance albums in a while. “Just Dance” is too good!

TV Shows: Again, The Office – The season premiere was hilarious!

Game: Super Ball 2 – For the iPhone, the only games I will play. Very addictive, a lot like Pong but better!

Book/Magazine – Didn’t read much in September, but word on the street is that the Twilight series is good ;)

Purchase: This awesome print of a gondola in Venice that is hanging in my room now.

Travel: Sadly, I didn’t go anywhere in September but back to Cumberland. That will change in October.
